SAMIRA is a Los Angeles based writer, director, and academic known for her storytelling. Shaped by her Desi-Ugandan, Welsh-English heritage, and Canadian upbringing, Samira's creative journey delves into the essence of humanity, often focusing on the experiences of those who feel like outsiders. Like her own life, her art defies categorization, pushing boundaries and questioning conventions across a range of genres.

Her writing projects include a book of short stories YESTERDAY WE KNEW LIGHT, the TV project DJINGER SNAPS, and the feature film SPOIL. Her writer-director projects include the short films RUBATOSIS and FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. She was the Story Editor for PIPAS (KITES) Directed by Walter Thompson-Hernandez. She has a story in development with Monkeypaw Productions.

She has been published in Aeon Magazine, Transnational Curriculum Inquiry, Bold Visions in Educational Research, and Canadian Curriculum Studies. She served as a Visiting Scholar and doctoral advisor at George Washington University and implemented professional development for teachers and social workers across New York City as part of the 3-K For All program, impacting 68,000 students in the city. She served as Academic Director of the Sparks Academies Afghanistan and consulted for UNICEF. She is the winner of the Ted T. Aoki Award and the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies Dissertation Award.

She is a graduate of Brown University and MIT, and holds a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia. She was an Action Canada Fellow.
